We started 2006 selling mesh and basic rendering supplies, wholesale, to builders and retailers across Melbourne. As time went on, we kept hearing about the problems that not only builders were having like angles not lasting, low quality tapes, and poor customer support. People were ending up with homes which didn’t survive Australian conditions and what was available in the market lacked innovation and quality. Nobody was responding to these problems.
So, starting with angles, we looked around for a solution. None of the Australian suppliers wanted to invest an aluminium angle so we went looking in Europe and ended up creating our own manufacturing operation. Bringing a brand-new design over to Australia and being the first company to introducing aluminium angles and channels to the Australian market.
That’s how it started, by listening to our customers and working with professionals to supply the best quality product.
After two years of research and development, the angles became (and still are) a best in class product. And after 14 years in business, with a dedication to innovation and product integrity, BuildSmart is still striving to develop the best solutions that Australian builders and homeowners can use.
INNOVATION
A need for innovation
BuildSmart’ has two key pillars – innovation and quality – the first of which is innovation. Our formula for innovation is not complicated because we listen to our customers, investing time into building quality relationships and a thorough understanding of an industry problem, then work with professionals to develop high-quality products and solutions. If a quality product doesn’t exist, we will create it ourselves. If a product doesn’t work, we want to know why.
This approach means when a new idea or problem appears, our immediate reaction is not to look for a product to buy and sell as cheaply and quickly as possible. This approach means that if there is a market need, we will go out of our way to research what is available and find the best solution.
This is the essence of BuildSmart’s approach we constantly want to know how we can build something better and to continuously ask – how do we Build Smarter?

Just like the original BuildSmart Angles, we have persisted with our commitment to innovation and now have what we believe to be the strongest range of rendering products on the market, many of our premier products are patented BuildSmart designs.

Each of these products has been designed for Australian conditions and to work with Australian certified rendering systems – systems which are developed by the likes of Dulux.
BuildSmart strives to be a one-stop-shop for the building industry – specializing in internal drywall and external rendering products. Giving customers a flexible range and being able to support any sized projects no matter how big or small. To support this, BuildSmart has built partnerships with global brands and is trusted to carry products for some of the world’s best manufacturers.

BuildSmart shares a close relationship with Nela – a German manufacturer of premium hand tools and a leader in the European market.
Likov
Likov is based out of the Czech Republic and is one of the largest producers of aluminum profiles in the world – supporting BuildSmart’s ability to supply any sized project.
A need for quality
Being price-conscious is normal and completely understandable, compromising on quality is not. BuildSmart does not take any shortcuts with regards to the quality of our products or the people we work with. We will always make sure to go above and beyond what the industries standard requirements are, that is why many of our products are used in officially certified systems around Australia.
Unfortunately, an emphasis on high-quality innovation and a commitment to product integrity is not universal and far too many people are being sold duplicated products that are inferior in quality, come with no support, from operators who only have profit in mind. This approach has a ripple effect that results in the entire building industry suffering from reputational loss and a lack of trust with customers.
We want our customers to have peace of mind when they buy any of the products in our range.
As a team who strive for quality and doing the best we can, so we act this kind of behaviour and will not supply a product that we cannot guarantee.
